An Adorable New Buddy

Michio stood in the mist before the cave. He stood up straight, staring out into the entrance of the cave. He had done most of his training outside of the cave, making use of the mist rising out of it to make it harder to breathe as a part of his endurance training. This was an extremely different and also far more exciting visit in comparison to his previous one. He had a new friend with him who was not especially fond of the cold. His little buddy was hiding between his shirt and his vest, which left him feeling very nervous. He did not often trip, but he was no worried that if he did he would crush Hareegh.

Hareegh was a fire salamander that his family had bred specially to be his companion, and could even read and write just like a human being could. He was black with yellow spots and carrying a golf pencil and a small note pad that he used to communicate with. Due to how very small, not even a foot long, and how extremely light, not even three ounces, Hareegh was, Michio could often not tell where the little creature was on his body. He hoped that maybe as he got closer to him that he would be able to predict these things.

He approached the opening of the cave and felt a quick shift in temperatures as he approached the heat that caused the cool mist outside of the cave. His body shuddered from the intensity of the change as the little amphibian crawled out from under his vest, then down this sleeve and onto his hand where he stayed for some time, staring up at Michio. Not entirely sure what to do, Michio stared back at the little creature; Hareegh was a curious looking little creature.

Michio held his palm up to observe the little animal that was curled up in his hand. He then gripped his little pencil and took to penning an urgent message for him. " STILL WAY TOO COLD!" was written down in all caps and then presented to Michio for him to do something about the situation. I'll take care of it, little buddy, he held his other palm a foot or so over the chilly fire salamander and said, "Fanoos," in a calm and reassuring voice to the little animal as his palm lit up. His outer layer of skin on the hand over top of him started to, not only exert fire, but become fire. He used it like a heat lamp to keep the little fire salamander warm.

Instead of ripping one page off and using a new one Hareegh turned the golf pencil around and erased his earlier message to write down, "Thnx." "You are pretty to the point, aren't ya?" Michio asked Hareegh. The little creature simply nodded his head in agreement with the question instead of writing anything down to answer. Michio figured out that the new friend of his was not going to say anything that he could communicate through nods, shakes, and other similar such gestures. He could not speak, which seemed very befitting of both a shinobi's animal companion or anybody with this sort of personality. Michio feared that it would be rather difficult to get properly associated with the new friend, but that would be fine. He had plenty of time to get better associated with the strange animal. He was stretched out and relaxed under the heat.

Michio kept his jutsu going and watched as the little creature slowly got more and more relaxed in the palm of his lower hand. The warm, glowing flame that was the hand held higher coaxed the small amphibian into a state of euphoria. The young shinobi with the flaming locks and flaming palm hoped that this would lead Hareegh to maybe open up more about himself, but even in a state of relaxation he had nothing to say or write. Michio wondered if maybe naturally silent animals had less need to socialize. These thoughts were confirmed around the time that Hareegh hid his notepad under himself as to protect it from catching fire from Michio's Jutsu. Michio decided to just discontinue his jutsu and slide Hareegh, along with his golf pencil and note pad, into his pocket. After that Michio got back up from where he was sitting and playing with Hareegh. He then crawled out of the heat of the cave and out into the mist. He felt Hareegh shudder as they entered into the colder air. He crawled out of Michio's pants pocket, onto his shirt, up his shirt, and in between his vest and dress shirt. He then left.
