Village News
The islands in Ocean Country have been celebrating the arrival of the next Umikage, Saizo. The long bridge leading to SHIPPUUGAKURE NO SATO has been closed for outsiders because they wish to celebrate this moment with Ocean Country natives only.
As usual, the Storm Country has been hosting the Asgard Games to welcome their Kanetsukage, Cornelia. It's a double special occasion because Cornelia is also the first female Kanetsukage. She has been picked for her courage, loyalty and outstanding power by the BOUFUUGAKURE NO SATO elders.
Not only that, but the Cherry Blossom Country has become relieved as well. It seems that everyone is slowly picking up after the war now. KUSAMURAGAKURE NO SATO proudly presented their new Sakurakage, Altair.
TSUKIGAKURE NO SATO is still thriving on the merchants coming in and out. They have not experienced anything special lately. Their wealth has remained the same as they were not forced to invest into shinobi unlike the others.
On the cold isles of the Blizzard Country, HYOUGAGAKURE NO SATO has still refused to create a free traveling policy. Some habits never change. To protect their traditions, they have even warned outsiders to not interfere with their matters.
Now that everyone is picking up again, who will come out on top?

Mission Title: Escort the Tourists
Difficulty: C
Location: -set-
Reward: 60,000
Objective: Today you will be escorting a group of civilian tourists(ten people) through your village. Show them around, make sure to point out landmarks, tell them some history and tell them a bit about the local food joints. You know, the normal tourism things.
Except one of the tourists, a balding man of about forty, has been sipping on alcoholic beverages throughout the entire tour. Near the conclusion of the tour this man will start to act rowdy, shouting at you and saying that the tour sucked while stumbling around. He will then swing at you, attempting to fight you. Detain the man with the least amount of harm possible. If you kill the man, or break any of his bones you fail and do not get rewarded

Semasu's eyes lingered over the piece of paper on her table, she was sitting cross-legged at the low table on the floor and the envelop and a cup of tea were the only things on its surface. The tea was fresh and the letter was newly written, she could tell by the fresh state of the ink on the front cover. Like all mission letters, they were sealed with a wax seal with the village's insignia imprinted onto it. Semasu sipped her tea casually as she picked up the letter and admired its beauty; the letter itself was very simplistic and lacked any graceful features besides her village's insignia that she was very proud of. Instead she was admiring the two outcomes this letter brought to her; first was the opportunity to serve the Tsuchikage, no matter how small the task. The second opportunity was the very fact that completing the mission would award her with the much needed ryo for something particular that had caught her eye in an armor shop.

One of her delicate but skilled fingers glided across the edge of the letter and tore it open in one swift motion, she pulled out the letter which was folded in half and read the contents.

  • Genin Semasu Rankujo, please be aware that this is a response to your request on the mission board for work. This is a mission where you will be escorting ten newcomers around Tsukigakure- no harm is to come to them from bandits; show them around and help them get familiar with the area.

The mission seemed simple enough to Semasu, the pay would be great and she wouldn't have to work much at all. The mission was for the very next morning, the newcomers would be there early morning and get to know the place before the sun was even at the brightest and most warm part of the day. Semasu was certain that she could be back at the mission board later that evening without any trouble at all. She got up from the table and went over to her fireplace where some homemade doughnuts were being prepared.

I should probably make another couple dozen for the newcomers tomorrow, I'm sure they would love a homemade treat after a long journey.

She rationalized this as she pulled out another five pound bag of flour, sugar, water and cinnamon; she spent the rest of the evening making doughnuts before going to bed while they air-dried.

Early the next morning she was up before the sun was, she was eager to complete this mission but would not rush through it and leave the newcomers feeling lost and confused. One who was good in business knew that if the customers or employer were not satisfied, one could expect to not get hired again. She packed the doughnuts in a small pouch specifically made for keeping foods cool and moist; she actually had one such pouch on her at all times because she loved doughnuts so much.

By the time the gate opened and the newcomers were just then arriving, Semasu had been sitting a short ways away from the gate and had already eaten a dozen or so doughnuts. The reported to their designated leader and showed him her info card and the mission letter.

Susarabi, I am Semasu Rankujo and I will be the one to guide your group around Tsukigakure today.

Susarabi nodded his approval, he was an elderly man with graying hair and stark green eyes- all of his comrades wore the same basic ninja uniform from their village. A dessert type robe and headband. Semasu looked the group over, mostly men but there were two women also: lastly she noticed a man in the very back who was drinking from a bottle of sake without restraint. Semasu groaned inwardly as she imagined the kind of trouble he might be later, but she hoped that he was the type of man who could hold his alcohol.

She directed them to her attention and introduced herself as their guide, no one complained or said anything but the drinking man let out a clearly audible grunt. Semasu ignored it and started the tour from the very start- the gate. She pointed to the gate and explained the normal travelling hours and when business could be conducted, she also told them the times when the gates would not open unless in emergencies. From there they headed into the village interior, Semasu pointed to odd shops and main places of business and housing areas: she had spent the previous day asking and confirming prices as well so she could answer any questions the group might have.

Tell me, ishn't there an age limit for doing theshe knish of jobsh?

The drinking man had interrupted one of her explanations and questioned her age integrity at the same time, not to mention his words sounded a bit slurred and he was not walking fully straight. Semasu ignored the disrespectful insinuation and smiled as she replied to him.

Our village determines difficulties of jobs by age and experience. This job requires little experience or but a certain age range is required- I assure you that I am old enough and can answer questions better than most.

The man hardly paid much attention, he didn't like the answer she had given him; though the others nodded in silent approval and waited for her to continue with the tour. She was about to continue when the man interrupted her again.

Sho you shay you can anshwer queshtions better than mosht who do thish job huh? What about thoshe living apartmentsh over there?

The man was too drunk to even point properly in a direction, instead he was pointing mostly to the sky. Semasu breathed to control her temper and paused as she thought back to the previous day.

The living areas in that general direction operate between 2000-5000 ryo a month, in fact I know a great place where the owner offers a discount to groups.

Again the group nodded their approval and a few of them requested more information after the tour. The drunkard seemed to have enough talk for a moment while he stuffed the gourd of sake back into his mouth and took another strong gulp. Susarabi looked to Semasu in an apologetic way, it seems that he was not the one who chose who went, but he was the only one with leadership skills. Semasu understood right away and dropped the insults of the drunkard. She continued on through the village and explained some of the village history as well as a few of the prominent clans in the area: some clans maintained specific sectrs of the village because they were so large.

By the time it was almost noon, Semasu had brought them back to the gate where they first came in- they had make a full circle of the village and Semasu was confident from the answers they gave to her questions about stuff- that they would not be lost and they could accomplish what they came to do. Susarabi stepped forwards and shook her hand.

You have our thanks Semasu, I believe I can say that every single one of us enjoyed our tour.

Semasu was glad to hear it, it let her know that she had done well on the job. There was one unsatisfied member though, for some reason- the drunkard was unhappy and it probably had to do with his sake being all gone.

You took too long genin, all my shake is gone now: I won't be able to get any for another few hours!

The drunkard pushed Susarabi aside and shoved his face too close to Semasu's as he glared at her. Semasu didn't budge, nor did she blink or flinched from his attempted intimidation.

Normally a tour like this would take another couple hours from people who do not know the village as well. You are fortunate indeed to only have had it this long, I am sure there is a sake shop close by.

Again the drunkard didn't like her response, he held up the empty gourd of sake and waved it in front of Semasu.

I inshist that you pay for my next round of shake becaushe you took too long!

So that was his motives... he was dissatisfied that he had drank all of his sake and now he was trying to coerce Semasu into buying alcohol for him.

Like I said already: you will not find someone as good as me to navigate through the village in a timely manner, nor provide you with such quick and accurate information. Am I to understand that you are trying to force me to buy you sake, mister?

Color rose to the man's face as he realized that she could see right through his ploy, he glanced around at the others and realized by their facial expressions that they too now understood his motives- he had lost all credibility.

You insholent child, I ought to teach you a thing or two about reshpect!

The man stepped back a little to let his wobbling had come up and aim at Semasu; this whole time, Semasu had both of her hands behind her back and clasped together- she had given her an intimidated appearance while also making her seem docile and fragile. When the man's fist lunged at her though, a quick foot technique to the side brought her to his unguarded side and a quick jab to her overly-round belly brought the man to his knees. All of the air was knocked out of his lungs and he coughed a few times.

Two guards by the gate had witnessed the whole event and stepped in them, they arrested the man for excessive alcohol and attempted assault. They nodded their approval to her and took the man away. Susarabi quickly bowed and apologized.

I am terribly sorry Semasu, I was not aware that man would be joining us until it was already too late; we needed to combined funds to get here.

Semasu once again understood the man's predicament and smiled, she shrugged off the incident and thanked them for being such a good group. The whole group thanked her again and commented on how enjoyable the doughnuts had been during the tour. Semasu reported to the mission board that evening for another mission.
