Village News
The islands in Ocean Country have been celebrating the arrival of the next Umikage, Saizo. The long bridge leading to SHIPPUUGAKURE NO SATO has been closed for outsiders because they wish to celebrate this moment with Ocean Country natives only.
As usual, the Storm Country has been hosting the Asgard Games to welcome their Kanetsukage, Cornelia. It's a double special occasion because Cornelia is also the first female Kanetsukage. She has been picked for her courage, loyalty and outstanding power by the BOUFUUGAKURE NO SATO elders.
Not only that, but the Cherry Blossom Country has become relieved as well. It seems that everyone is slowly picking up after the war now. KUSAMURAGAKURE NO SATO proudly presented their new Sakurakage, Altair.
TSUKIGAKURE NO SATO is still thriving on the merchants coming in and out. They have not experienced anything special lately. Their wealth has remained the same as they were not forced to invest into shinobi unlike the others.
On the cold isles of the Blizzard Country, HYOUGAGAKURE NO SATO has still refused to create a free traveling policy. Some habits never change. To protect their traditions, they have even warned outsiders to not interfere with their matters.
Now that everyone is picking up again, who will come out on top?

Kesu, Furen Vfefvwef

Kesu, Furen Whoare14

First Name: Furen
Last Name: Kesu
Alias: -

Gender: Male
Age: 19
Height: 5’11 (179 cm)
Weight: 13 Stone/ 182 Ibs/ 83 Kg
Birthday: 12th August
Sexuality: Straight
Relationships: While Furen would not be against the idea, his lack of social awareness makes it difficult.

Affiliation:Boufuu
Rank: Chuunin
Element: Bakuton (Explosion Release), Doton (Earth Release)
Specialization: Taijutsu, Nintaijutsu, Ninjutsu.

Kesu, Furen Tellme11

Personality: The best way to understand Furens personality is by comparing it to a rock. While he isn’t bland and motionless, he is stubborn, durable, insensitive, oblivious, and rather dependable. Having grown up with a strict traditional upbringing, any of Furens rebellious youth was soon beaten out of him. This paved the way for a respectful obedient young man, Furen strongly believes in hierarchy, do not speak to those above you and command those below you, for someone to disrespect your senior is a grave offence. Socially Furen is unintentionally an idiot, finding it hard to say the right things and often saying the wrong things, small talk doesn’t go well with him, largely because he doesn’t know what it is. This makes it hard for people to get on with him, not because he’s mean or arrogant (He’s anything but) it just because they don’t really understand what he’s talking about.

When it comes down to duty, missions and battle, Furen comes more into his element, there is no need for gossip or petty well wishing. Driven in his task he will follow the warrior’s way. His stubbornness is reflected in his firm beliefs and confidence of abilities. His stubbornness can be seen in his reluctance to leave a comrade behind. Durability is seen in how he deals with trauma and hardships; it takes a lot to break his morale. Furen will pursue a good fight and never turns away from a conflict, unless the mission requires it. This however should not be confused with being bloody thirsty. Essentially he follows the Bushido code, ready for battle, but doing so honourably, like his clan enforces it.

Likes:
  • Training; Training, training and more training. From an early age the Kesu clan drills the Choy-Li fighting style into its clan members, as the principle heir to the clan, Furen was no different. Having grown up with such a strict regime, Furen grew used to training in the dojo, and now feels guilty unless he spends a few hours each day in the Dojo.

  • Sparring; Well, you can’t confess to be a taijutsu practitioner without doing a fair bit of sparring. Having grown up with sparring as a core principle in his education Furen enjoys a good spar, he feels you can tell a lot about people by the way they fight.

  • His lucky Gi; This was the Gi Furen was wearing when he broke his rivals nose. It’s still got the rivals blood on its left sleeve. Furen refuses to listen to the complaints of it being ‘unhygienic’.

  • Rules: Taught always to follow the rules. Rules bring order, without them people fall away from the path.

  • Dumplins; His mothers speciality dish, when he was younger, his Father used to monopolise the Dumplin ration at meal times; it would be a rare treat for Furen to taste those lovely Dumplins. Thus whenever Dumplins are on the menu or open in the buffet, Furen instinctly pounces.

  • Boufuugakure’s weather; His sensei always taught Furen that change brings experience. This is reflected in the weather experienced in Boufuu, ever fluctuating, Furen associates this weather with Home, and helps bring warm memories to mind.

Dislikes:
  • Cowardice; To Furen cowardice is worse than defeat, while he accepts that it would be foolish to let oneself get killed, only in extreme circumstances must you run.

  • Laziness; Having been brought up on hard work, Furen see’s laziness as a sin, why be lazy when you could be out there training.

  • Rule breakers; With his own strict code for following rules, be it mission parameters to dining room etiquette, anyone who disobeys the rules will fall astray, and needs to be punished.

  • Genjutsu; Being a firm believer in the Kesu’s way of martial combat, Furen thinks anything that plays with your mind is just a dirty ol' trick.

  • Cruelty; A true shinobi should follow the warriors way, the Bushido. Cruelty, arrogance and disrespect would not fit well with Furen.

  • People saying he looks older; People seem to view Furen as at least 30, something that he greatly dislikes, he takes great pride in being the youth of his clan, when people remark on his age they can usually expect a comical response from Furens rage.

  • Kidney beans; Explained more in Fears. He’s never even tasted one; Furen states their appearance is ‘alien’ and ‘not fit for human consumption’.

Motivation: Following his clans meaning Furens main goal is always “to improve.” His strongest desire is to become the best Taijutsu combatant in his clans history, or even in his village. A very ambitious goal, but with great ambitions comes great motivation, despite the doubts in his mind.

Furens other motivation is drawn from his clans lack of wealth or power, Furen has a powerful motivation to show the world his clans knowledge and experience, and show that the Kesu clan is capable of helping defend Boufuu. With regards to his clans laws and rules, Furen must maximise his experience by testing himself whenever possible, a concept he has not yet fully grasped, and will test himself with matters completely irrelevant to being a shinobi, such as besting the villages largest ramen bowl.

Fears: Of all things, Furens single greatest fear is the disappearance of his clan, due to its small size and relatively low renown, he fears if Boufuu were to be invaded or attacked his clan may be destroyed. This is highlighted by Furens lack of fear with regards to death or injury, but to wound his clan would deeply cut his morale.
Stupidly Furen is often mistaken for being many years older than he actually is, something that he greatly dislikes, for this reason he has a mild fear of mirrors, or his reflection. This is perhaps more a gimmick and would not be able to break his resolution with regards to a battle. He also has the irrational fear of kidney beans, something that has no reasonable explanation and may bring you to the conclusion Furen is an idiot.

Kesu, Furen Blood10

Kesu

Bloodline Name: Explosion Release: Choy-Li fist

Bloodline Ability: In the past Explosion release was a relatively widespread Kekkei Genkai. It is the ability to use earth/advanced nature chakra to create explosive offensive techniques. The Kesu clan specializes in the combination of short range Explosive jutsu’s and their own unique Taijutsu style. When a clan member with the blood line ability is born, they are made to master the Kesu‘s Choy-Li Taijustsu before learning how to control the close quarters Explosion Release techniques.

Location: Boufuu

Clan History: In the days gone by, the kekkei genkai Explosion release was relatively widespread; there were several lineages capable of using said Explosive techniques. However through time and the hardships of life, many lineages became obsolete. The origin of the Kesu clan comes from the amalgamation of two separate lineages. In the outskirts of Boufuugakure there existed a small and relatively unimportant Clan of taijutsu practitioners, who from an early age were trained in the Choy-Li style, a mixture of hard and soft techniques. Though not a large clan, their style had been acquired through centuries of battles and competitions with other taijutsu practicing clans, giving the Choy-Li style a very strong and honed finish. The other lineage were a clan of nomadic shinobi, years of travelling and disease had decimated their clan, almost eradicating their kekkei genkai (Nature transformation: Explosion release), they settled in the Heat country, not knowing they were far from Boufuugakure or the Choy-Li clan.

The two clans unison was not recorded in any of the Kesu records how it occurred, and it has been often rumored a story made to romanticize the clans history; a young man of the Nomadic people had fallen in love with the chief heiress to the Choy-Li clan. Both had kept this secret from their representative clans, in fear of persecution. However when the heiress became pregnant their love could no-longer be hidden.

The Choy-Li’s headmaster, the heiress’s farther, while hard spirited and rigid in his ways could not help his compassion when he saw the newborn child. The child served as a symbol of unity with the now combined nomadic and Choy-Li clans. As the child grew he was taught both clans lineages of techniques, during his final days of training the now teen prodigy combined a Explosive jutsu with one of the Choy-Li’s taijutsu attacks, the compatibility of the techniques shocked everyone there. The Boy was named Atamanoiiko (Bright child), as time passed and he garnered experience Atamanoiiko was chosen as the new head of the united clans. Upon his appointment declared the disbandment of the clans, in order for a new clan to rise; the new clan was named Kesu, which meant “to improve”.

The Kesu clan remained small and unimportant, and through the centuries it devoted itself to furthering Atamanoiiko’s techniques and style. The explosion release bloodline had no specific requirements for passing down generations, only that the parents bared the Kekkei Genkai before them.

The virtue of the Kesu clan remains as strong as ever, the clan still aims to maintain its stoic and self preservation like nature. As such despite the clans relatively powerful techniques and martial prowess, they are not regarded as an important clan within Boufuugakure.
Perhaps the time has come for Kesu to rise up and aid their village, whatever fate holds for them, it is certain that the clan will be affected with what is to come.

Kesu, Furen Histor11

History: Born in the Boufuu hospital like most of the villages inhabitants, at a healthy weight of nine pounds, Furen was given his name sake after his clans second master. Unbeknownst to Little Furen at the time was he had a twin sister, whom had been born first; however, she was in a weakened condition. The poor child would never manage to make it past its first hour, and the experience left Furen’s father bitter and regretful. With this Furen was now the heir to the Kesu clans’ lineage, to be entrusted with its secretive martial arts, provided he had been granted the clans kekkei genkai. Once it was possible to take him home, the clan’s law keepers tested to see if Furen held the clans bloodline, the simple chakra paper test. It was determined that Furen would be taught the clans age old techniques and become the clan head when he was ready. Until he was the age of 5 Furen had a relatively simple life, he had few friends but was doted on by his mother who felt the need to over protect him after the death of his twin. His Father however was unusually cold, spending little time with him and when he did was aggressive and sharp.

Upon reaching the age of five, Furen began instruction of the Choy-Li style while also becoming a member of the Villages Ninja Academy. The intense training of the Ketsu clan may have been considered unethical for a five year old, but it has been tradition in the clan for many centuries. As the years progressed Furens taijutsu began to develop more and more, by the age of nine he was able to fight evenly with clan members and academy students several years his senior. His progress within the academy was above average, he found basic ninjutsu achievable, however genjutsu proved difficult, most likely due to Furens inability to understand the concepts behind it use, he was after all brought up to believe might is right, anything else is just a parlor trick. He often found himself dismayed, when he would proudly declare his clan name, only for people to belittle it or not even recognize it as a clan, this feeling of resentment would prove to be motivation for Furen in the years to come.

Age ten Furen began the traditional training under the Kesu clan’s current head, his father. This would prove to be a harrowing task, his father still held contempt for Furens long dead twin sister, still at an age unable to fully understand, Furen believed it to be his own fault. As a result Furen pledged to train his utter most hardest so as to win his father’s respect and approval. The training became so intense that his attendance at the academy had to be halted. Perhaps the father found solitude in rigidly training Furen, perhaps it was his way of reconciling with his son, either way his heart grew fond of Furen, and after 5 years of training, Furen had become extremely proficient combatant, daily sparring and testing by his father has given him a true Choy-Li body: strong, swift, supple and solid as a rock. The Kesu’s traditional training meant Furen had been trained daily in using his kekkei genkai; as a result he was able to several of his clan’s bloodline techniques in battle.

Now 15 years of age, Furen began to re-attend the academy, and found himself almost immediately promoted to genin. Assigned in a team of three under a Jonin, Furen experienced team work for the first time; needless to say it was difficult, the other two genin were at odds with Furens stubborn, rule abiding nature. This shaky team soon found itself tested in the form of a C rank mission, a reconnaissance mission into the Mountain Country. There proved to be little activity, the mission had come to its last day when the team and their sensei scouted out an abandoned town. Told to stay together and remain in position by their jonin, the genin were left as lookouts while the sensei did a brief data search. However in their naivety, Furens fellow genin wandered off, disobeying their seniors command, and infuriating Furen. His Fury soon turned to horror however when the sound of metal against flesh reverberated from the street they had disappeared down. Blood trickled down the paved gutter, reluctant to disobey a command but fearing for his fellow genins lives, Furen advanced. To the side of the street lay one of the genin, beheaded. The other remained elevated, while being choked single handed by large, vicious looking Shinobi. Immediately under the scrutinizing gaze of this murderous Shinobi, Furen sensed danger; he’d fought with many opponents, and through his experience he could tell this Shinobi wanted to kill. Setting a defensive stance, he prepared for the worst, however in a flash the shinobi used a body flicker technique to close the distance, followed by a single kick placed directly in Furens stomach. With the force of what felt like a crashing tsunami, Furen was propelled against a wall, instantly hearing and feeling the large crack that signaled his ribs been broken.

Darkness encroached as Furen felt like this would be the end, through blurred vision he managed to catch his sensei using a suppressive like jutsu before picking up his choked out team mate and himself, before darkness finally claimed him. Furen remained unconscious for at least a day, before finally waking on the boat that was returning to Boufuu. His other team mate had managed to survive; however, she was severely crippled and would take at least a year to for her to fully recover. The sensei revealed that the mysterious shinobi they had encountered was most likely a member of Yugure, a rogue organization of missing-nin, the reason for his attack was most likely because he had not wanted his presence known by any of the villages. The event left a strong impression on Furens ideals and resolutions, never would he let an evil like that harm his clan, his team mates or his village.
After returning to Boufuu, Furen was given the choice of joining a new team which would allow him to participate in the chuunin exam sooner, or wait for his old team mate to recover and take the exam with her when she was ready. Furen felt honor bound to wait for her, plus this gave him at least a few years training to further improve his abilities. He returned to his clans dojo, and begun his most brutal training yet, he was powerfully driven and his progression began to impress all of the instructors within his clan. It was decided that in order to further improve Furen must go on a challenge spree, to defeat as many dojos and taijutsu styles within the heat country as he could. Accompanied by a Jonin level clan instructor, Furen travelled through many of the Heat countries towns, challenging dojos and taking trophies as evidence of their defeat. Again this seemed like a questionable method of training, but the experience Furen garnered was immense. He would daily train all aspects of his bloodline ability. In addition, while travelling he had developed the use of certain Earth style jutsu’s that complemented his fighting style.

Upon his return Furen bore several prominent scars, however in his travels he had also attained maturity. His team mate had fully recovered, and they were all set to take part in the upcoming Chuunin exams. They were assigned a new team mate, a medical nin, and successfully passed the first stages of the exam. All was going well until they reached the final stage, the battle tournament. Furen easily bested his opponents in the preliminary stages. However, his final fight was against an experienced genjutsu specialist. Furen had little experience with genjutsu and actively disliked its usage. All had gone well until Furen was tricked into an illusionary jutsu, blurring all his senses. The opponent began to attack, easily striking Furen who was preoccupied fighting opponents in his head. Luckily Furens bloodline trait granted him a mammoth like endurance, allowing him to take a significant amount of punishment without succumbing to defeat. Tired of trying to pummel Furen, the genjutsu–nin decided to use other means; he approached with a kunai, intending to stab Furen, in hopes that bloodloss would wear down Furens strength. This might have worked, however as soon as the sharpened edge plunged into Furens skin his instinctive reflexes kicked in. Grabbing his opponent Furen knew this would be his best chance. Using the Choy-li specialization of take downs, Furen smashed his opponent with an earth shattering sacrificial throw. The genjutsu lifted and Furen had won, against the odds, he had decisively shown his combat skills.

Now a Chuunin, Furen had much more to learn, and has spent the past couple of years furthering his knowledge of explosion release jutsu’s. His clans meaning signifies his resolution: “To improve”!

RP Sample:

The grey gloom of Boufuus skies did little to improve the mood hanging over the dark alley in which Furen stood. Its long meandering pathway had plenty of dark crevices and cracks big enough to harbor a fleeing criminal or two. Furen knew all too well that in order to complete his mission, he would have to search the entirety this concrete nightmare. To an untrained eye it would appear he was an unassuming visitor, perhaps just a little too careless in where he chose to walk. However under the long grey cloak that draped over his body, Furen was ready, his muscles coiled tight ready to pounce if the need arose. Pausing for a moment to allow his eyes to adjust he moved off, pacing steadily deeper into the dark bowels of the city.

He had been walking for several minutes before he heard the scurry of feet and the rustle of clothing echo from one of the dingy looking sideway immediately to his left. “I assume you know why I’m here, don’t you? You do realize that I can bring you in DEAD, or alive?” No answer came, but it was easy to tell that the thief’s greedy eyes watched Furen from the shadows, probably contemplating his plan of escape before realizing he was in a dead end.
Furen’s stern voice cut across the pitter patter of rain; “You see, I’m blocking off the only entrance. Escaping is not an option. Now do you surrender, or do I have to beat it out of you?”
Furen firmly believed in not mincing words, his militaristic tone reflects his ideals, if the criminal refused to comply then force would be needed. He is after all a criminal. His thoughts were sharply interrupted by the pacing of steps, heavy and determined, and heading his way. Into the dull light the criminal appeared, ragged and worn in appearance, one would not be able to tell he'd once been a shinobi, he was staring through his knotted hair with eyes of contempt. His worn hands grasped a large sword, one that would be difficult to use in the tight hugging walls of the ally, but none the less ready to attack.

Furen furrowed his brow and spoke; “If that’s your choice, then I’m afraid I cannot guarantee your safety.” He had already begun to unwrap the binding on his hands, revealing calloused knuckles, knuckles worn through the trials of battle.

Erm I placed him as a Chuunin since I asked for it in the open ranks thread, but of course if the character is deemed not to deserve the rank, I'll just delete the relevant history. :)
